Our World In Data uses this infographic to illustrate child mortality rates throughout the past 200 years. To be sure, the number of child deaths within the past two centuries has decreased significantly; but even today it is staggering. The first infographic shows the number of children who died before the age of five over the past 215 years. The second shows the number by country. The third accompanying infographic shows the number of child deaths by cause from 1990 to 2015.
