What is the world’s most lethal creature? The answer may surprise you. It’s a mosquito. These tiny blood-sucking insects are not only responsible for annoying thousands of people each year with their itch-inducing bites, they’re also responsible for killing them. This infographic, created by Gates Notes, explains just how deadly mosquitos really are. In fact, these surprisingly oft-lethal nuisances are even far more dangerous than humans are to one another, and exponentially more dangerous than sharks, crocodiles or wolves. As explained in the infographic, at an average 725,000 kills each year, mosquitos take approximately 250,000 more lives than the second-deadliest animal, humans, who are responsible for an average of 475,000 deaths. Sharks, by comparison, take an average of 10 lives per year.
